Making Fools

What does the Apostle Paul have against wisdom? In 1 Corinthians, he writes that the cross of Christ is foolishness, and quoting Isaiah, declares that it will “destroy the wisdom of the wise.” Erik preached on the way that Paul sees the cross of Christ creating a new world, reducing the wisdom of the old world to nothing.

Listen to how Paul’s language shifts to destruction and creation: he’s reducing the things that are to nothing, in order to make something new out the “the things that are not,” the nothings and the nobodies. The cross is the blueprint for the new world God is making, and that new world begins in church.
